June 29, 1991, is a date that many friends and family remembers will never forget... it's the date of Scott's accident. In this journey of life, I've learned that each person is the hero of their own story, and my remarkable mother, Lila Ridings Darnell, began a harrowing ordeal herself back on that day. Over time, she bravely recorded the experience in words, and finally agreed to publish her book, The Ghost Behind the Wheelchair, back in 2003. Ordeal is the key word here... even the task of publishing such an honest, guiding light for other parents facing a spinal injury has been difficult. And yet, she continues to persevere as a true inspiration. The picture below comes from a great story on my mom, Scott and the book from PN-Paraplegia News. You can also find a great review of the book from Sandra Vassallo of e-Bility.com here.
Anyway, all those who know and love her understand that she has been there for Scott and the rest of us in countless, infinitely important ways (and rest assured, she's as excited as she can be about our upcoming debut at SEMA). Having gone through this journey to this point, my mom, her book, and the rest of us, are all here for anyone else dealing with a spinal injury....
